About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2018 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of the more than 1.6 million students who entered the national competition by taking the Preliminary SAT / National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Gladden, 17, is a five-year member of the marching band, captain of the Academic Challenge Team, a member of the Heroes Over Heroin Junior Achievement presentation team, and a member of the high school student leadership team. Gladden said she is grateful to her teachers and for the opportunities Cloverleaf has provided through Advanced Placement coursework. She currently is in the midst of the college application process and hopes to pursue a career in the field of chemistry. Her parents are Melanie and John Gladden of Westfield Township.
