Cloverleaf vs. Revere OHSAA Foundation Game to raise money for Cloverleaf charities

By Cloverleaf High School Journalism Staff

Two local girls basketball programs will be getting together to play Ohio High School Athletic Association Foundation games on Nov. 19 at Cloverleaf High School.

Cloverleaf High School and Revere High School are teaming up for their last official scrimmages. The junior varsity game will start at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m.

A Foundation Game is used as a final dress rehearsal for the upcoming season and to raise money for the OHSAA Foundation, as well as for a local charity.

“We like to play in these games every year to get the experience of playing in the early season, but more importantly because of the value of supporting and helping others,” Cloverleaf Head Coach John Carmigiano said. “We want our girls to understand that it is always a good thing to lend a helping hand and make things a little easier for someone else.”

This year, the teams will be joining with the Cloverleaf High School Junior Achievement group, under the direction of Cloverleaf teacher Jim Humiston, to raise money for three local Cloverleaf charities.

“Junior Achievement is happy to be a part of this event and help these Cloverleaf families,” Humiston said.

The first is Allison Hanudel, a Cloverleaf teacher who is currently in a battle with breast cancer. The second is a Cloverleaf family -- Karen Eckelberry and her three daughters -- who recently lost their husband and father in a tragic boating accident. Lastly, the group will be raising money for Cloverleaf student Nick Preusser, who is battling Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD). Preusser is the son of Cloverleaf High School Guidance Counselor Bob Preusser.

The Cloverleaf basketball team is looking forward to the evening.

“We know the importance of this event and helping people in the Cloverleaf community and the surrounding communities,” Cloverleaf basketball senior Gabby Gruber said. “As a senior, I am looking forward to this night and the chance to have fun and help people again.”

At the games, there will be raffle baskets donated by both basketball teams and CHS Junior Achievement, as well as a 50-50 raffle. Donations will be accepted.
