What: Preliminary SAT and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test
Date: Wednesday, Oct. 16
Time: 7:35 a.m.
Where: Cloverleaf High School Gym

Who should take the PSAT/NMSQT?

Accelerated sophomores: The PSAT/NMSQT is a preparatory test for the SAT (a standardized test used widely for college admissions).  As a sophomore, you are not eligible for the scholarship competition, but the experience gained from taking the PSAT could be valuable during your junior year when you do become eligible for the National Merit Scholar competition.  This is great practice for college entrance tests. Highly recommended for college-bound students!

Juniors: The PSAT/NMSQT is a preparatory test for the SAT. It measures critical reading, mathematical reasoning and writing skills that are important for success in college. The tests cover knowledge and skills developed through years of study in a wide range of courses. It also tests the ability to reason with facts and concepts rather than the ability to recall them.

Why take the test?

It’s how you would qualify for participation in the National Merit Scholarship program, which is a four-year renewable scholarship if you become a National Merit Scholar winner.

It can help you qualify for other corporate-sponsored scholarship or enrichment programs that use PSAT results. (See your Student Guide -- students will receive one once they have registered.)
