Feb. 20, 2012

Congratulations to district qualifiers Austin Probert (3rd @ 113), Chase Werner (4th @132), Austin Kozma (3rd @182), and Kyle Jenkin (1st @220) for their success at last weekend’s sectional tournament at Marion Harding High School.

Senior Jenkin is sectional champion, going 3-0 and defeating two previous district qualifiers in the process. Sophomore Probert fought back through the consolation rounds with a thrilling come-from-behind pin with time running out, then dominated his opponent in the go-to match , finishing third in a close finals match. Sophomore Werner also dominated his opponent in his go-to match, then lost a close match in the finals. Junior Kozma wrestled solidly all day, making very few mistakes and pinning all three opponents to finish 3rd.

The District Tournament is this Friday, Feb. 24, in Kates Gymnasium at Ashland University. Wrestling starts at 4 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.

Please congratulate and wish the wrestlers good luck as they pursue their goal to qualify for the State Tournament.

Colts wrestling update from Coach Evan Hollopeter
Jan. 6, 2012

The team performed well on Jan. 5 in dual meet losses to Green (48-31) and Copley (49-27). The young Colts had double winners in Chase Werner (132), Austin Kozma (182), and Kyle Jenkin (220). Also performing well in their first varsity action were freshman Austin Scandlon (120) with an exciting come-from-behind pin against Copley, and sophomore Matt Lenos (138) with a pin against Green. Junior Joe Kruggel (145) had a major decision against Green.

The team is still trying to recruit wrestlers for this season, as presently we forfeit 106, 126, and HWT. We have also lost several wrestlers to potentially season-ending injuries. Despite the lack of numbers, the team has maintained a positive outlook and continues to improve.

Next up for the Colt wrestlers is the Strongsville JV tournament on Saturday, Jan. 7. The varsity resumes action Jan 14 at the Midpark Tournament, while the JV  travels to West Holmes JV Tournament the same day.

The wrestlers will also be helping with the big Elementary School Move on Jan 13. We will consider it alternative weightlifting!

Here are current varsity individual records:

113 Austin Probert 6-11
120 Austin Scandlon 1-1
132 Chase Werner 10-7
138 Ryan Pascal 4-9
138 Matt Lenos 1-1
145 Joe Kruggel 9-8
152 Zac Skidmore 2-8
152 Jake Saffle 0-4
160 Tyler Dobbins 8-7
170 Doug Cameron 3-4
170 Kevin Chester 1-0
182 Austin Kozma 7-6
195 Luke Cipullo 4-12
220 Kyle Jenkin 14-4
