Wood receives honor

Cloverleaf High School Senior Morgan Wood has been named a Commended Student in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended Students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who took the 2013 Preliminary SAT / National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Morgan is treasurer of the CHS National Honor Society, captain of the girls tennis team, chair of the student council school service committee, as well as a member of HUDDLE, the Academic Challenge team and Key Club.

She said the qualifying test was challenging -- making the commendation “unexpected, but very welcome.” Morgan plans to continue her education after graduating from Cloverleaf and is currently in the midst of the college selection process.

“It was a pleasure meeting this young woman and having the honor of presenting her with this good news,” said Jamie Lormeau, principal of Cloverleaf High School. “This is a remarkable achievement, and Cloverleaf High School is proud to be a part of it.”

According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation: “The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success. These students represent a valuable national resource. Recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”

Morgan is the daughter of Craig and Roseann Wood of Guilford Township.
