The Cloverleaf High School Drama Department presents its 2017 One-Act Play Festival 4 p.m. May 7 on the Cloverleaf Elementary School stage.

This year’s festival will include four one-act comedies under the direction of some of the senior members of the CHS Drama Club.

“The seniors are excited to get an opportunity to direct their own shows,” said CHS Drama Club advisor John Carmigiano. “They were very eager to get the shows casted right after spring break and to get working with the talented underclassmen at Cloverleaf.”

The first play will be “A Voice From Beyond” by Thomas J. Hutton, directed by Matt Butt. The play includes a crystal ball, a séance and a bunch of laughs.

The second play of the night will be “The Great Pandemonium” by Pat Cook, directed by Allison Chudzinski. The show has rapid-fire dialogue and takes place during a technical rehearsal for a high school production of Shakepeare’s “Richard III.”

“It is definitely a great experience,” Chudzinski said. “I have been giving the actors the same advice that other directors have given me. It is a comedic show with lots of Shakespeare references. I think the audience will enjoy it and think it’s funny.”

The third play will be an original from Riley Freeland called, “The College Collection.” The comedy, which she wrote this year, includes that experience of leaving home for the first time and the awkwardness of bringing home your new significant others to meet the parents.

“I wanted to express my own sense of humor and I just wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to direct a show that fits my style,” Freeland said. “The more we practice the more I can see it coming together and into perspective. I realize that the actors really have embraced the roles of the characters.”

The last play of the night will be the entertaining, “Oh, What a Tangled Web” by John R. Carroll. The comedy will be directed by Sophia Reed and Delaney Sheldon. The show highlights how one little white lie can lead to absolute chaos.

Carmigiano is really happy with the leadership of the senior directors.

“This will be a great night of entertainment; the shows are really funny,” said Carmigiano. “These are great kids directing that have represented our program very well over the last four years. I give them all a lot of credit for giving back to the young Thespians at our school by helping them and imparting their knowledge and experience on them. Congratulations to Riley also for writing her own original!”

Admission is $5 for all ages at the door. The house opens at 3:30 p.m. Cloverleaf Elementary School is located at 8337 Friendsville Rd., Seville. For information, contact Carmigiano at [email protected].
