Cloverleaf High School's Heroes Over Heroin

The Cloverleaf High School Career Connections class, in association with Junior Achievement, participated in a Company Project competition April 25 at the University of Mount Union.

In each Company Project, students seek to fill a need or solve a problem in their community by launching a business venture and unleashing their entrepreneurial spirit.

Students in Cloverleaf’s Career Connections class formed Heroes Over Heroin, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing awareness to the local, state and national issue of heroin addiction. The students created a Web site to share information and sell T-shirts and wristbands via PayPal, with all proceeds going to the cause of helping heroin users overcome their addiction. Students developed a social media marketing plan to promote their organization using Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

As a result of their efforts, Heroes Over Heroin made a donation $300 to the Lodi Police Department’s Chief Keith Keough for his grassroots campaign Flights for Addicts. Its mission is to find treatment facilities for heroin addicts, due to the local shortage of treatment facilities.

Several hundred students from Northeast Ohio schools were in attendance for the competition. The Junior Achievement Company Project included 10 schools with the winning project coming from North Canton Hoover High School.

The students in Cloverleaf’s Career Connections class are mentored by Junior Achievement Volunteer Michael Fraser, a local business leader who owns and operates Avalanche Media Works in Wadsworth. James Humiston is their classroom teacher.
