On April 21, at the Ohio Academic Competition (OAC) North East Region Tournament hosted at Cloverleaf, the Cloverleaf Colts emerged victorious to win a place at the STATE FINALS on May 5 in Columbus!
This is the first time Cloverleaf has qualified for the state finals and is now the only team from Medina County to do so. There are six regions across the state. Ninety-six of the top teams in the state took part in regional tournaments to determine the final 12 (1st and 2nd place from each region) that would advance to the state finals. And the Colts are one of the top 12!
Our team of Luke Plazek, Haley Daugherty, Brian Easterling, Sarah Winnicki, Dana Martin and Kellianne Rinearson defeated Manchester twice, Revere by a 13-point margin, Jackson, and then in the semi-final defeated defending state champion Copley by a score of 55-46 to earn a shot at the championship game.
The championship match between the Colts and Warren G. Harding saw several lead changes, and our team come back from an eight-point deficit to force a double tie-breaker before WGH won by one point, 56-55. Both Warren G. Harding and Cloverleaf will represent the North East Region when they travel to Columbus on May 5 to play for a state championship.
